If you are passionate about civil litigation and improving the eiciency and fairness of federal and
state litigation rules, we welcome your interest in a new Counsel position at Lawyers for Civil
Justice (LCJ). The person filling this role will focus on the development, advocacy, and
implementation of federal civil litigation rule proposals and support member engagement on behalf
of related state rule amendments. The person will work with LCJ’s General Counsel, Executive
Director, and other team members to advance LCJ’s advocacy and enable the engagement of LCJ
member organizations.
Lawyers for Civil Justice Overview
LCJ brings together leading companies, law firms, and defense bar organizations to advocate for
meaningful civil litigation rule reforms. It does so by understanding litigation developments,
formulating innovative solutions, and executing elective advocacy strategies that turn member
ideas into action. The primary focus of LCJ’s advocacy is the federal Committee on Rules of
Practice and Procedure and its advisory committees.
Founded in 1987 by the nation’s three leading defense bar organizations, LCJ has a strong record of
achieving procedural rule reform aecting the scope of discovery, spoliation sanctions,
organizational depositions, class action settlements, expert evidence admissibility, multidistrict
litigation, and remote testimony.
LCJ’s advocacy is conducted with the direct involvement of, and collaboration between, our
corporate and law firm members. The expertise and experience of our members are essential to
LCJ’s reputation and success. LCJ members convene twice a year in person to exchange ideas and
discuss the most critical concerns about civil litigation.
LCJ and its members interact with the federal rules committees, as well as the bench and bar,
directly and through LCJ meetings, bar conferences, and other events. LCJ’s amicus briefs are
respected for their perspectives on rule interpretations within LCJ’s expertise. LCJ’s civil justice
fellows program provides the opportunity for members to engage their rising star attorneys in
advocacy eorts and to network with colleagues.
Counsel Responsibilities
In support of LCJ’s rules advocacy:
*Participate in development, management of research, and drafting of LCJ rule amendment
proposals, suggestions, comments, and other submissions.
*Assist in managing advocacy committee meetings and workstreams.
*Manage state expert evidence admissibility rule initiatives.
*Handle evaluation of new rule proposals and related legislation.
* Support LCJ’s Ask About TPLF initiative and other advocacy initiatives.
In support of amicus activity:
* Manage amicus brief requests.
*Maintain up-to-date status of requests, drafts, and submitted briefs.
* Support LCJ’s Amicus Committee.
In support of communications:
*Draft substantive content in support of LCJ communications.
*Work with LCJ sta and external consultants in support of communications initiatives.
*Engage in external events with defense bar members and allied organizations.
In support of LCJ’s Civil Justice Fellows program:
* Work with LCJ Civil Justice Fellows to ensure the quality of their experience.
*Identify and recruit lawyers for participation in projects, meetings, and events.
* Support LCJ’s Diversity and Young Lawyers Committee.
In support of membership engagement:
* Participate in planning, preparation, and execution of member and committee meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
LCJ is seeking a lawyer well-grounded in civil litigation and enthusiastic about LCJ’s mission to
improve the fairness and eiciency of procedural and evidentiary rules. Candidates should have the
following minimum qualifications:
* Juris doctor degree with a strong record of academic achievement.
* 6+ years of civil litigation trial and/or appellate civil litigation experience.
* Demonstrated superior legal research and analytical skills.
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
* A commitment to excellent client service and member involvement.
*Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with internal colleagues,
LCJ member lawyers, and external stakeholders.
LCJ has a preference for candidates who are familiar with the legislative process and who
demonstrate an interest in supporting LCJ’s congressional and executive branch engagement.
LCJ’s oices are in Arlington, Virginia and this position is based in this oice. LCJ’s hybrid work
model allows for a partially remote work schedule. Accordingly, Counsel will be expected to be
physically located in the Washington, DC, area or within reasonable travel distance to LCJ’s oices.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $175,000 to $210,000. The actual salary for this position will
