Job Title: Assistant Public Defender – Colleton County

Job Description: The Office of the 14th Circuit Public Defender is looking for dedicated people interested in public service. As a Public Defender, you will represent indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses in Colleton County, serving the community by guaranteeing the fundamental right to counsel. As an Assistant Public Defender will provide every aspect of legal representation to indigent persons charged with criminal offenses and who, because of indigence, cannot obtain counsel to represent them. Duties of the Assistant Public Defender include trials and court hearings, arguing and preparing of motions and orders, negotiate plea bargains, client and witness interviews, investigation, analysis of strength of cases, develops mitigation and defenses, community outreach and related job duties as assigned by a supervisor. Hiring criteria

Candidate must:
* Requires Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
* Must possess and maintain current membership in the SC Bar Association.
* Completed all SC Rule 403 requirements
* Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
* Be able to conduct legal research and possess ability to analyze cases and legal opinions
* Have a strong work ethic and be committed to the service of public defense
* Be a US Citizen or eligible to work in the United States
