Job Title: Law Clerk
The South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation – Office of Disciplinary Counsel seeks a law clerk to provide support to the attorneys in the form of legal drafting, evidence preparation, and overall preparation for hearings. At the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, we strive to make South Carolina a safe place to work and live through the licensing of various professionals, i.e., builders, physicians, engineers, nurses, etc. . . . ., and the enforcement of statutory standards of conduct. In the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (“ODC”), we prosecute legally viable complaints raised against professionals licensed by one of our forty-three (43) licensing boards. The ODC attorneys present these matters, after proper investigation and vetting, before the applicable board for hearing and resolution. Such resolution may involve a reprimand alerting the public of misconduct engaged in by the licensee, may require the licensee to complete additional educational courses, pay a civil penalty, face suspension of the license, or other applicable terms and conditions. In certain instances, it may be necessary to continue, pursue, or defend legal action before the South Carolina Administrative Law Court or the Court of Appeals. Hearings are held routinely, often on a weekly basis for various boards. Working hours are flexible.
